Refinishing or reglazing, is a process by which old or worn out fixtures are resurfaced. This brings new life to your old fixtures, adding many years to its life. The process is completed in place and there is no need to remove the fixture. This process can save you a lot of money and time. Replacement of the actual fixture could cost as much as 4 times the amount.
Surfaces that can be refinished:

If you are not sure what type of surface you have please contact us for help identifying it.
In order to ensure the best surface on your refinished fixture we have a rigorous set of steps we follow.
First the fixture is aggressively cleaned to remove all impurities from the surface. Next we fully inspect the surface for cracks, chips or damge and repair them. The room is then masked off to protect all other surfaces. Finally the fixture is primered and sparayed with the new polyurethane coating. At this time the fixture is left to cure and dry. After the surface has fully cured we will return and polish it, remove all masking materials, leavinig your fixture like new and ready to use.
There are many variables that can affect the length of time it takes to refinish a fixture, however, On average the process takes 1-2 days.
There are many types of coatings that can be used to refinish a fixture. For over 27 years we have been refnishing bathtubs and over this time we have found that polyurethane provides the highest quality surface. It has stood the test of time and provides the elacticity and durability to hold up for many years.
Once your fixture has been refinished it is very easy to keep clean and maintain. One of the reason to refinish the surface is just that, to make it easier to keep clean. You may continue to use any of your regular household cleansers that are NOT abrasive to maintain your newly refinished surface.
As soon as we polish the newly resurfaced fixture and perform our cleanup, it is ready to be used.
At Bathtub Refinishers we stand behind our work. All Chip repairs and Resurace/Refinishing jobs come with a standard warranty.

No we do not use porcelain. Unlike Polyurethane which we do use, Porcelain requires the use of high temperatures and a kiln-like environment in order to be used. This would make the process of refinishing cost more than buying a whole new tub. The reason being, you would have to remove the fixture in order to place it in a high-heat environment, then coat it, cure it and replace it back into the room. The coating we use is made of polyurethane, a high quality, durable material which allows us to refinish the fixture without removing it. It also provides a better surface that is easily maintained, and will last for many years.
Your newly refinished fixture is coated with a very durable substance called polyurethane and is acutally quite stronger than the original gel coating on a fiberglass tub. Although durable you should still Never use abrasive substances to clean it. Your newly refinished surface should provide many years of service, and also comes with our standard 7 year warranty.
No your newly refinished surace will not look painted. It will look like a new bathtub.
Yes finerglass tubs and fixtures can be refinished and/or repaired the same as other tubs.
The materials used to refinish a bathtub do have a strong odor and some people prefer to leave while the job is being done, however, it is not required that you leave.
The only preperation needed is to remove any personal items from the room.
